You know, Ive just finished watching Jaws 2 again. (Its been about 3 years since I last watched it.) The film is far better than most people remember. If the original Jaws didnt exist, and people didnt make the comparison, this film would be in the top movies of all time polls. I also think, (dare I say it), that it has more OMG! moments than the original. The fin rising to chase the waterskier, Eddie, being pushed through the water into the side of the boat, (just go back and listen to that bang) the attack on the helicopter, Brody dragging out the dead body, (Jaws 2s Ben Gardners moment.) and the obliteration of the girl rescuing Sean, I could go on. I just feel the comparison between the two movies isnt a fair one. To me, Jaws was a story, less about the shark, but more about how common folk would deal with an incredible situation, their livelihood and themselves. Jaws 2 is more horror and almost gives the shark a more vindictive side, akin to the Jaws Rip-Offs at the time. Different style, same name. (Star Wars Episode IV vs Star Wars Episode I) Sorry for the long post. Jaws will always be No.1. But that second shark, and the brilliant film, never gets the appreciation it should from the regular public.
