Your St. Peters College 1st XV remains undefeated at The St. Peters College CAGE, until their next game at The St. Peters College CAGE which will most likely be May 2015. The 3000 strong crowd packed out The St. Peters College CAGE and much of the side streets for the jubilee celebrations, the day started with a convincing 2nd half comeback against Sacred Heart by St. Peters College 2nd XV with a Hatrick going to big prop Junior Tagi. The U-14 again set the day with high spirits with a convincing 4 trys to 1 win. With a very strong game going to Josh Loveday. Then it was St. Peters College 1st XI soccers turn, as they came up against top of the table Rangitoto College who previously defeated St. Peters College 4-1. The boys continued the winning ways with a 5-2 victory over the top of the table, huge game to captain Myer Bevan. The highly anticipated HOLY SATURDAY was up next. The one everyone had been waiting for, 3rd place vs 4th place. It was a preview of the top 4. The game kicked off by St. Peters College, with a steal straight from the kick off. This left the fans in high spirits. A few minutes into the game big Filipo Fahiua took a run down the sideline where at the break down a Sacred player kicked Fahiua in the head, where he got up and as the player was walking away Fahiua pushed him in the back. The ref called Fahiua over and put a yellow card up in the air to the outrage of the players. Sacred converted the penalty putting them up 3-0. Only a few minutes later, St. Peters College gave up one of the weakest trys of the year, as a sacred player ran straight up the guy breaking a few tackles along the way, this was also converted giving sacred a point per minute as it was 10 minutes into the game and 10-0. Straight from the kickoff St. Peters College were penalised which proved to be an occurring theme, St. Peters College were getting penalised over things which should never have happened. Filipo Fahiua was back on, The lineout was stolen and the Jackhammar Leroy Jack run the ball for an additional 15 metres. This set up a beautiful line-break by Filipo Fahiua who passed the ball to Harry Plummer on the sideline who ran for an extra 10 metres before getting dragged down, Lisati Milo-Harris quickly shifted the ball out to Dion Fraser who ran up the middle and was tackled around with a shoulder to the face, the ref quickly put up a yellow card to famous Tongan Thor Daniel Tupou. Jordan Trainor easily slotted the penalty from 15 out to get St. Peters College 1st XV on the board 10-3 SHC. A few minutes later, sacred were awarded a penalty from 48 metres out for offside by St. Peters College, they took the shot at goal and missed miserably, the scores remain 10-3. Until the 19th minute when St. Peters College had the ball 30 metres out, Lisati Milo-Harris faked the ball from the breakdown to go right and then changed direction and went left, the pass was pinpoint to human wrecking ball Luteru Tolai who ran the ball on an angle and as it appeared that he was tackled, Jordan Steam Train Trainor ran off Tolais shoulder and received what many say one of the most perfect offloads Ive ever seen where Trainor ran the ball the remainder of the way to put the ball down a few metres from under the uprights, this was quickly converted by Trainor to even the scores 10-10, from here on for the rest of the half it remained 10-10 with great opportunities to both teams who both continued to throw away their chances with unnecessary penalties and bad decisions. The second half started with the first significant event being the lineout taken by sacred as they threw it short with no jumper and passed it straight back to the hooked who ran the ball up into the St. Peters College 10 metre line. After a penalty or two the ball was eventually spread to the left hand side where the centre put in a smart grubber kick into the In goal. It was heavily contested by both teams to eventually come out as a knock on by sacred. Sacred soon got the ball back in the same spot where the acting half back went to go pick up the ball from behind the ruck as it popped out, the player quickly tried to pick the ball up, he dropped it forward and picked it up once more to run it in for the try to the anger of the St. Peters Army screaming for a knock on. The try was not converted, putting sacred ahead 15-10. Almost 10 minutes after the try Taina Fox-Matamua ran the ball up the gut for a 30 metre gain all the way down to the sacred 5 metre line, the ball was quickly spread out when Trainor got his hand on the ball he went to throw a cut out pass to secure the try against the overlap, until the sacred player stuck his hand out and slapped the ball down, the same touch judge who called a knock on try for St. Kents in round one was now again saying it was was not an intentional knock down, the Army was chanting OFF! OFF! OFF! And the ref did not give the yellow, the St. Peters College fans were outraged. However from the penalty the ball was spread across the field showing a beautiful back line play, which finished with Trainor drawing and passing to AJ Lam on the sideline who slid in for the try, unconverted by Trainor, the scores were even at 15-15. Basically straight from the kickoff sacred counter attacked and St. Peters College let in a disgraceful try to the winger who just ran down the sideline, and ended up putting it down under the posts, easily converted. Sacred were once again up 22-15 with 10 minutes remaining. With 6 minutes left in the game sacred missed an easy kick from out infront to seal the game. Sacred then threw a bad pass in their own half resulting in a turnover, Filipo Fahiua capitalised on the turnover giving a strong run, which was then passed out wide to Joshua Plummer who dove to catch the ball, got up to his feet and gained an extra few metres. The ball was quickly spread to Dion Fraser who drew a few men and cut the ball back inside for a sneaky pass to Jordan Trainor who ran the ball through the gap to put the ball down under the up rights for the 5 pointer, the conversion was almost blocked by the rushing sacred players but Jordan Trainor slotted it to even the score 22-22. From the kickoff Fraser cleared the ball all the way out at the sacred heart 10 metre line. This Is when one of the most outrageous calls off the game was made, the hooker took more than 10 seconds to throw the ball, Jack went up and was stationary in the air for about 3 seconds and the ref called a penalty against Jack. Sacred ran the ball all the way down to St. Peters College 22 metre line, and eventually down to only a few metres out. The game at this time was running over time when sacred was awarded a penalty to win the game, they had a kick 15 metres out and 5 metres to the side. When the reserve kicker took the kick the crowd was silent, the kick went up and hit the post, sacred caught the ball off the rebound and was 2 metres out, the phases were adding up when eventually the ref put his hand up, the sacred players jumped up and down until they realised it was a penalty for double movement against Daniel Tupou, the penalty was awarded to St. Peters College where they kicked the ball out and finished the game 22-22 draw 1ST HALF •Filipo Fahiua #12.
