aded Spectator 4:12 AM on 11/06/2013 “With the democratisation of Scottish Universities, it is now increasingly difficult to educate the terminally thick!!!” Never have I seen truer words printed in the Scotsman. Maybe, one way to increase the Scottish quota, at Scotland’s universities would be to introduce an IQ test for the Oxbridge rejects? There is sufficient quantitive evidence, current quantitive evidence that the banal underperforming middle class seat fillers, some would say “seat blockers” at Scotland’s universities will, graduate, maybe with honors and do nothing remarkable thereafter, much like the majority of posters on this thread. If, in a similar way that they gained their place up here – or even here, if their parents acquired a post in Scotland, in a similar way as they acquired their place at Uni. – they then devolve into some position of power and authority, without the personal skills, intellect or abilities to discharge their duties – the UK goes on sinking further and further into the RED. The research, that is requisite – as Post Graduation Research is requisite, to actually determine what benefit the well heeled’d spawn actually make to society? Not the regular research that states that “Graduates earn X more than non graduates”. Churning out thousands of middle class graduates, is not just questionable – because the benefit to society is very limited, if any benefit exists? Gone are the days when society needed lots of graduates to run the country – machines do that now along with multitasking managers. Could the benefit be to provide the NHS with staff? – with growing numbers of foreign graduates being In-Shored to work in medicine and the NHS being phased out, that can’t be the benefit to society. In all probability, the ‘Benefit’ is not an altruistic one, it is simply and maybe no more than to produce lots of graduation photographs, to boast to friends and family about their spawn’s alleged “ability”. But the research will show that they will make very little contribution, very little difference and at worst, actually do harm to the UK. If, the rUK government, are the cream of UK Education, which allegedly they are(?) and they are ruining the country with their combined ‘Personal Abilities’ God help the rUK if that is indicative of what the university, ‘selection process’ renders. The fascinating thing for me here, is that noting the bilious remark below about “Easterhouse” – the cerebrally challenged upstart, probably Brainwashed excuse for a contributor – “Does not know enough”. It is a ‘Fact’, maybe needing some research – that wealth, ‘Interestingly’ misses a generation. Those in “Easterhouse” are there, as a direct result of the incompetence, the perpetual incompetence of?.... Graduates! It is a fact of life, that for there to be Wealth, there must also be Poverty. 99.9% of the wealth in the UK is held, at the moment - by the ‘Undeserving Rich’ They maintain their position of assumed superiority, not by their efforts, not by their genius and not by the sweat of their brow. At one time, there was a legitimate argument for accommodating “Seat Blockers” – it was argued that they bring “X Millions into the Scottish economy” – after Independence, that situation will change – said alleged wealth will not be required. People with the potential of making a symbiotic contribution to Scotland will be required. Will you? scotsman/news/education/scottish-universities-social-mix-changed-little-1-2961525
