[bible-study] [Bible_study] Tuesday Oct. 22nd . Ps. 49-51 Good morning beautiful people, Vanity upon vanity! All is Vanity! The hustle is vanity, gathering of wealth is vanity, wisdom accumulation is vanity, beauty is vanity, strength is vanity...because the end of it all is the grave. No man takes anything with him at death. That is the message of Psalm 49. Does it mean we shouldnt get all these things? No, get them but with one thing in mind, the only promise of life is in Christ. Do we have our priorities right? Let us not be like one of the by all means people who neglect things of eternal value. Men will applaud your success, they will flock around you, give you awards but at the end of your life where will you go? Psalm 50 talks about a God who delights more in our thanksgiving and obedience to His word than our sacrifices , tithes and offerings. It speaks of a righteous judge who loves us very much but hates sin. It reminds us that judgement will surely come and we will have to decide whose side we are on. 21 These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was altogether like you; but I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes. 22 Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver: 23 Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright, I will show the salvation of God. Psalm 51 is a Psalm of penitence, David wrote this beautiful Psalm after Nathan the prophet was sent by God to reveal his sin with Bathsheba. David wrote this Psalm from a spirit broken and a heart contrite. He did not try to rationalize or justify his sin, he immediately saw it in Gods light and realized the only person who could deliver him was God. So he went first to God.The one thing this chapter has shown me is that no matter how far we think we have gone from God, He always clears a path for us to return. His requirement? A broken spirit and a contrite heart. This is definitely not an invitation to continue in sin, remember God knows the intent of our hearts. Have an awesome day people! Mercy ---------------------- Good day people, Thanks again sister Mercy. The lesson of chapter 48 cannot be overemphasized. I listened to a message some years back can God trust you with favor. That message brought to reality that there is a reason and a purpose for us being blessed with riches and wealth while we are here on Earth. God blesses us in order that we might be a blessing in return. Be it material blessing, spiritual blessing, financial blessing, name it... The reason is that we will share these blessings with people around us and also expand the kingdom of God. We are not blessed for ourself. Please let us realize that we cannot go anywhere with them (the riches). I think about dying empty all the time as a person. Wealth and riches fade away. When we are blessed, may we realize the intent of the father for such blessings and do likewise. One other lesson i picked today is from the popular psalm 51. Verse 6 says Behold thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. God sees us and knows what is in our hearts (He created and formed us in the first place) but he desires that we approach Him with sincerity of heart. It is a very big disaster for us not to be broken before God when we err. It is also the greatest deceit of our lives if we want to pretend before God and try to cover up our sins. They will surely find us out. I learnt that i cannot form to be holy before God my maker. David got to the level of being a man after Gods heart because he was broken. Is the Spirit of God pointing at one weakness or sin in our lives? Could it be lust, Could it be bitterness? Could it be slander? Could it be jealousy? Could it be hatred? Could it be lies? Whatever it is, God can deliver us from them all and blot away our transgressions if only we come broken before Him. I was once this person who could not forgive easily (many years back), today some of my friends that have encountered me say Ijay you love too much, you have a heart of a child. My brethren it was not like that in the beginning. I had to cry out to God to help me constantly and i found grace to help me. Today, when people offend me or i think i have offended them, i quickly forgive and ask for forgiveness and also keep my love for them on (very important). Recently i listened to another message and i was thought the principle of scroll, select, and delete. Getting to what you dont need to habour in your heart and just deleting it. Be it in words, thoughts and so on. Just SSD and keep moving. I have a friend that constantly reminds me of that. Just to add this surrounding ourselves with Godly friends is very important. Now, I think about the love of Christ and im able to bear some things that a natural man will say i cant bear or take. In whatever area it is, we can be delivered and set free when we approach God with brokenness and truth of what we have done. He will wash us and make us whole. Lord, today i pray that you will create in us a clean heart and renew the right spirit within us. Cast us not away from thy presence oh! Lord. Take not thy Holy Spirit from us, restore unto us the joy of our salvation and renew the right spirit within us in Jesus name we pray! Amen!!! Have a joyful day and remember that when He forgives, He remembers no more. So no need for us to dwell in guilt. Much Love, Ijay. --------------------------- Good morn, The word of the Preacher that we shd go to the place of mourning as it would help us reflect is indeed a good advise. Today, the call of the Psalmist to us is: Take heed, beware of covetousness: for a mans life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth (Luke 12:15). For 3 consecutive weeks at the sunday school, the topics had been worship His Majesty, praise ye the Lord and rejoice evermore; we were admonished that if we feel ders no reason to rejoice cos of the challenges of life, rejoice in the fact that you have Christ (cos He is the Hope of Glory). The Psalmist said despite that death is inevitable, God will redeem my soul from the power of death, for HE SHALL RECEIVE ME; Psalm 49:15. What a glorious hope we have. Thank you Lord for Jesus. Temmy ------------------------------ Great lessons for us all to learn from the Psalmist today! Thanks for the reviews! I have a little comment and a question. 1) Psalm 50:12-13 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. I heard an American preacher say that after his divorce, he suddenly foudn that divorcees were willing to listen to him more! (He did not say God wanted him to divorce though). If we have stolen before, we can reach out to thieves; if we have cheated before, we can reach out to cheats and tell them how God delivered us from the things that held us bound. May our mistakes not be in vain! 2) The question. Psalm 49 looks like the picture of a typical African nation, fraught with corruption (same with numerous South American and Asian countries though). As I was reading, I loved the judgement part, and I really felt like preaching it in a capital city. :( verse 14: They are like sheep and are destined to die; death will be their shepherd (but the upright will prevail over them in the morning). Their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions. My candid question is WHEN IS THE MORNING? Thanks. Lanre ------------------------ I wouldnt kno if am rite but I bliv the morning is when we stand before the Throne to receive our rewards. The wicked to damnation while the upright will receive numerous crown of rewards. Temmy -------------------------- The morning is Gods appointed time. As humans we crave Gods immediate judgement on the workers of iniquity especially those whose acts seem like an abomination to us. But God has His own calender and His won timetable.
