exchanging words on fb with a friend. as a kid there was a sense of urgency - there was the war in Viet Nam and people asking why are our boys dying across the world?it is not about American freedom, the conflict in southeast asia is not about protecting or defending American citizens or freedoms and people went to the streets and campuses and finally got the military industrial complex to pull out of Viet Nam. there was an urgency to save the environment. eagles were dying from dtd , Cuyahoga river burned with fire, and the Exxon Valdez crashed and flooded the pristine Alaskan bay with oil killing precious wildlife. this kid is now a grandmother. bees and butterflies and frogs are dying from all kinds of poisons, the gulf of Mexico has oil spewing massive quantities of oil into the waters, water infused with fracking toxins can be lit on fire, Fukushima is daily releasing radiation into the oceans, and we do not even know who we are fighting much less why, but the flowers have not gone to graveyards, not all. now soldiers come home, with head injuries and artificial ( often multiple) limbs and return to a land who ships them to foreign wars but does not support them returning to stateside, the flowers are dying because the pollinators are dying and the land and the water and the air continue to have extreme amounts of poison dumped into them..
