#facebook #privacy #rules #webdesign #socialmedia #socialmediamanager #webdesigner #toronto #policies Sorry for the long post / babble / rant. As a web designer and social media manager, I get new clients that dont believe in social media making comments about concerns over their privacy. I just felt like making a general statement because Ive also seen these comments floating in other user feeds. I would like to make a general statement. To those using Facebook or to those that want to use Facebook for fear of their privacy being exploited: If you are on Facebook or ANY other social media network or any website online and doing any browsing or if you own a cell phone for that matter; you are knowingly providing private information all the time. What I am trying to say; if youre not okay with sharing certain information; simply dont post it. I keep my profile as public as humanly possible quite personally because I dont see it fit to keep it private. If I dont want anyone to know about it; then Ill keep it to myself. That includes: banking information; social posts; images; birthdays; names; etc. To truly protect yourself, 100% from the online world: you have to go offline, permanently. Having said that; and do read this to the end before commenting - we are all welcome to our opinions and I am not trying to say that these networks have a right to exploit our information but it is the cost of being socially active in the online world and its something we choose to accept from the first moment we create an email address and set a password to it. Be wise in the information you share online and decide how much of yourself youre willing to exploit because thats the only information anyone else can exploit.
