https://youtube/watch?v=AGZiLMGdCE0 The matrix-bound humanity is in the grip of a delusional dream. In the dream, the apparently sensed world seems very real. It seems like a place where the body moves, where the eyes roam, where flesh meets flesh and sometimes lead and steel. But this sensed world, as Neo comes to believe, is simply a dream, a delusion to keep us quiet . . . keep us while the machines patiently suck energy from the preserved slumbering bio-mass. Neos situation at the beginning of The Matrix is something like that of the brain in a vat. He thinks that he lives in a city, he thinks that he has hair, he thinks it is 1999, and he thinks that it is sunny outside. In reality, he is floating in space, he has no hair, the year is around 2199, and the world has been darkened by war. The real world that Neo emerges into is pretty dire. It’s a ruined, lonely, gloomy landscape where the rebels ride around in grungy ships eating bad food and dodging their robotic enemies. There are a few small differences from the vat scenario above: Neos brain is located in a body. :-) When we first watch the movie one question comes up immediately: How do I know that I am not living in a matrix? If we think a little bit further Questions about the fundamental nature of reality come up:Due to David Chalmers we could end up thinking that the physical world is constituted by computations beneath the microphysical level. If something alike the Matrix is basic to our reality . . . There will be still tables, chairs, and bodies. And all our every day stuff.
