Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman are teaming up for a limited series based on Liane Moriartys bestselling book Big Little Lies. David E. Kelley, he of Ally McBeal and The Practice fame, will write the adaptation. This is sort of a passion project for Kidman and Witherspoon, since theyre developing the series without a network attached to it. Their production companies (Kidmans is called Blossom Films; Witherspoons Pacific Standard) jumped on the rights to the book just one month after it was published in July. The actresses originally saw the project as a feature film — The Hollywood Reporter explains that Kidmans company originally optioned the rights as such — but it looks like its going the television route, instead. The pair will shop the series around to premium channels such as HBO and Showtime, as well as streaming services. Reese Witherspoon has already proven herself as a producer when it comes to bringing books to screen. Pacific Standard produced Gone Girl, one of the biggest box office successes of 2014, and Wild which hits theaters next week. Sate your appetite for Big Little Lies small-screen debut by reading the book over the long weekend. Its currently on sale in the Kindle shop. For that, we are grateful.
