im aware of the contradiction in it being a quote and i do think his fiction absolutely blows (or at least Freedom and his trying-to-be-DeLilo The Corrections did) but heres Franzen with, everyone should be an elitist and keep it to themselves in response to how i feel about strident proselytizing activists on self-righteous magnanimous crusades; individuals want to destroy themselves, let them, its their decision...or if youre really that much of a humanitarian do it meekly by working with a cause/organization that doesnt outwardly harass these miscreant citizens or helps those who actually WANT it...i might have more on this but i dont know...waiting, on Staten Island, an even worse place than the Island Of Long.
