irling Carers Centre > Young Carers Service Young Carers Service Young carers are young people up to 18 years old who take on a significant caring responsibility for a family member who has an illness or disability. Young carers can come from any cultural and social background, so there is, therefore, no typical young carer. The Stirling Young Carers Service aims to offer support, a listening ear, and most importantly fun to all young carers. Most young carers willingly take on a caring role, but may need support and practical help to ensure that their education and personal development is not affected. This is where the Stirling Young Carers Service can help. We are a support, activities, and short break service that allow young carers the opportunity to voice issues and have fun with other young people who are in a similar situation. Below is a list of services that the Stirling Young Carers Project provides: • Young Carers Groups • 1:1 Personal Support • Outings and Residentials • General advice/information • Phone, text message, and email support • Access to publications relating to Young Carers Before a young carer can access the services available to them through the Stirling Carers Centre a ‘Young Carers Personal Assessment’ is carried out with them. The booklet gets completed by the Young Carer’s Co-ordinator, and aims to assess their caring responsibilities and identify what support, if any, would be beneficial to the young carer. Referrals are welcomed from professionals who work with young people who they identify as being a young carer, and from young carers themselves. A Referral Form should be completed prior to a young carer accessing support from Stirling Young Carers.
