This is sick: And what of the classic titles and the collectors who covet them? Rare book, photograph and archive dealer, Oliver Wood, has noticed some interesting developments of his own in recent years. “The market was really driven by hype for a while,” he says. “People were spending a lot of money on books and then finding out that they actually weren’t that rare; there aren’t many things that are completely unattainable. The books people are very interested in at the moment are presentation and association copies – books that have been gifted from one photographer to another or to somebody else important. That’s really the direction that it’s going to go in because they’re as near to unique as a book can be.” And this makes no sense, because selling more copies of a book, doesnt mean its better, it mainly means its more tailored to a very broad audience: As for the future of the photobook, the consensus seems to be thus: traditional publishers will print fewer better books – blockbuster hits that can justify their costly production. And no, I dont agree with Badger: “I think the person who is really going to find fame and fortune is the person who comes up with the first influential photobook as an app,” says Badger. But what to expect, its The Telegraph. telegraph.co.uk/culture/photography/10774134/The-photobook-today.html?fb
