is in Milner, writing: In fourth grade, my lunch began to disappear almost every day. One day during recess, I hid behind the wall of the classroom to find out how my lunch disappeared mysteriously. Soon after I had left, as in left to hide behind the wall, my ebony-skinned neighbor with beady eyes looked to the right, then to the left, and teased out my bright green lunch box with trained dexterity. It made me smile. Now I knew, but I wasn’t hungry, so I let him eat. He devoured my lunch: a few mini sandwiches. On days I was hungry, beady eyes looked dismal, so I offered him half of my lunch.
