last night, i was lucky enough to spend a few hours talking about the origins of Quiet Lightning for a forthcoming profile. it was the first time i went back to december 2009 in a long time. the city has changed so much since i moved here and in some very real ways im a completely different person. one thing that hasnt changed though, is that month in and month out QL has taken a submission pile and turned it into magic. its been the one major constant in my life these five years, and re-living some of the moments, phase by phase, was a bit overwhelming… in the process of preparing for this months events—curating two shows, launching a magazine and setting up an art exhibition—it hit me hard last night how lucky i am to have had this organization change my life, how unbelievable the whole thing has been, and how miraculous it is that weve been doing it for five years. as 2014 draws to a close, dont forget to look back a little as you look forward, and re-commit yourself to staying inspired, friends. if that brings you to one of our shows ill be very happy to see you. but if you cant make it please raise a glass for me, and for Quiet Lightning, and for five more years of intuition, wonder, and growth. thank you!
