listen up: Black teenage males are still at high risk 50 years after desegregation. passing laws in and of itself does not change deep seated fears that racism ...or misogyny ..or homophobia breed and continue to be seeded and watered by political groups invested in keeping people divided. What changes these attitudes and prejudices is people talking to each other across the divide of difference. And turning off talk radio and Fox news etc This is why THE NEW BLACK is such an important documentary in the same way the Two Towns of Jasper was ... see New Black now at Film Forum NYC and stream Two Towns of Jasper. --------------------------------- Esther B Robinson excerpted with exactness: ...defiance by an African-American male teenager, as opposed to any other American teenager, is seen as dangerous instead of merely rebellious....it speaks volumes that the only way the killer of a black teenager, a teenager armed only with his mouth and immaturity, will pay for his crime is because that teenager happened to be in a vehicle with three friends, and the bullets that killed him missed them. Judith Helland added : exactly - what ever happened to.. USING YOUR WORDS and YOUR OUTSIDE VOICE….. or if you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all… my beloved mom liked the latter. But i think she felt safe enough to do both.
