per Jennifer Lee There are few times in ones life where they feel comfortable walking out of the dirt, onto the green, and out to the pitchers mound, just to reinforce the idea that to keep me guessing is, as well, going to keep the batter guessing. Its not exactly the final cog in the wheel, but I got Weird Al to talk about. You may not know this, but the suggestion of Weird Al makes me feel like tequila and french-toast dinners. The questions I know I have to answer are: I have never seen Weird Al live. I saw one comedy/music show, and that was Adam Sandler. Weird Al is great. I mean, really great. I think Jen gave me Weird Al because she knew Id have to erase three lines for every one you are reading. I bought Polka Party on cassette at Soundwaves because I really liked Dare to be Stupid...which I heard on the animated Transformers: The Movie. I love that movie. Orson Welles last movie, for better or worse. I digress...I bought Polka Party and listened to it more than I had listened to the Back to the Future soundtrack. My favorite song of his is also on that record: Dog Eat Dog. Its a rare of Weird Als originals...though obviously a Talking Heads kinda tune. I remember thinking at that tender age, that he just showed me how to be a smart-ass AND make a good point: Sometimes I cant believe this is all really happening Sometimes I cant believe that Im really sitting here Sometimes I tell myself, This is not my beautiful stapler! Sometimes I tell myself, This is not my beautiful chair! It was the way he delivered it that made me understand what he was saying when I was 9 or 10. I understood the idea that there were significant questions in my head already. I understood that older people also had questions in their heads. I understood the sarcasm, too...I mean, I had text books and crayons to hate! I wish I had held on to that understanding when I couldnt figure out why I hated life with a 30min lunch break, computer glow-tan, and a sore ass. I bought Even Worse with lawn-mower money. I think I know more of the lyrics to Fat than Bad (though its a close call). My favorite episode of Wheel of Fortune is when Weird Al was a guest player. On his first spin, he guessed a consonant that was on the board; Pat, in usual turn, asked if hed, Like to buy a vowel or spin again? Weird Al responded, Id like to buy an umlaut, please, Pat!! It killed me. I wont even get into UHF, because Ill end up quoting the entire movie and boring you to death (Im sure its too late for that). Oh, look! Theyre really mad now! (Okay, sorry, just one) Then, sadly, I kind of lost touch with Weird Al. I heard the Amish tune. I heard some others after...and then I got to read a judges decision about a lawsuit he was involved in, just so I could learn he distinction between parody and infringement on intellectual property rights. I saw his name in the book, and before I could start reading the case, I felt a slow smile creeping out; and I got this feeling, like... Like having a tequila and french-toast dinner. Thanks for letting me ramble about Weird Al...
