regarding this weeks contest..... oh god..... sorry Marshal i did try to get your attention but you didnt hear me i guess 400watts. and right after i emailed you I turned up the radio again to hear that guy swearing at you , that was not me... and i didnt know his voice.... a 4 or 5 i bet... , sorry man no one should have to hear hate speech like that. you may be missing the point of the link i sent you we have this reception network ( sstv webcams ) set up 14.23 , you send a pic and you can see what parts of the world it shows up. the network cant move clear of the contesters.... and we can see the Voice qrm on our transmissions , i wasnt hearing many of the contesters Saturday but it was impacting our network and out regular Saturday morning sstv net was not able to gell. I for one gave up operating SSTV for most of the weekend and pulled down my 80/160 dipole and added fans for 40,20 and 10 . fyi 14.230 is analog , 14.233 digital ( not my thing ) and 14.236 digital voice , but i do not here anyone running that lately are sigs use 1200hz to 2400hz , a lot of contesters filter out the high end and dont hear the sstv but still bash the sync signal at 1200hz. also our transmissions are 1 to 3 minutes long , so if you dont monitor for 5-6 minutes you might not even know a qso is going on. im thinking of submitting a story to qst about the mode to help with awareness of the band plan and how easy it is to run the mode now with free software. my name is brad ko6kL sorry about that jerk who was swearing at you.... id like to say it was a digital sstv guy , but probable not... -=-=-= From: Marshall-K5QE To: jhill_81@yahoo Sent: Sunday, January 18, 2015 3:36 PM Subject: Re: Fwd: contesting on 14.23 SSTV calling frequency Hello JHill.....You did not give your call, so I cannot address you properly. The only thing that shows up is JHill.... The facts of this case are this: I had been operating on 14.230 for 2 1/2 hours with no problems. No interference, other than the usual crowded bands during a contest. Then out of the clear, a true jerk showed up and ORDERED me to leave the frequency. He would not give his name or his call. In fact only one person that whole afternoon actually gave his call. That person asked me very nicely if I would move down 3KHz and I did. This happened to me once before....when I was running the centennial W1AW/5 station. Again, I had been running stations for several hours when the SSTV police showed up and ordered me to get out of THEIR band. Apparently, the SSTV ops think that they OWN a certain block of frequencies....which of course they do NOT. Later, I was told that the SSTV ops think they OWN 14.230MHz to 14.240MHz. On both occasions, I was ordered to move out of THEIR band. Why is it that a station that has been operating for hours must move??? Why cannot the SSTV guys move a bit? Other SSTV stations will be able to hear an SSTV station if it is down or up a few KCs.....that is why we have a big VFO knob. The normal and natural protocol in all of Amateur Radio is that a station that has occupied a QRG will continue there and others can fit themselves in around him / her. Your group has a real perception problem. I have talked to other Amateur Radio ops about the SSTV ops. Their opinion is universally extremely negative. SSTV ops seem to think that they can intentionally QRM anyone that happens to venture close to YOUR band. Your members can be confrontational and rude, giving no call signs so that they cannot be traced(they think). If your bunch thinks that they can defend YOUR BAND by intentionally jamming everyone that comes close, then they need to think of this: Others can intentionally jam your mode too. I would say that dozens of SSB and digital signals in YOUR band would pretty well take care of SSTV. If you piss off enough people, that is what inevitably will happen. What your group seems to be saying is that it is OK for you to jam others but not the other way around. Just remember, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. I would suggest that the SSTV ops need to clean up their act. Asking nicely usually works wonders, ordering people around usually does not. Just for the record, I dont take orders from anonymous band policemen that do not seem to have a call. As a group, the choice is yours. You can continue as you have been doing and will also continue to be pariahs.....or you could soften your approach a bit. I know that it is perfectly possible for an SSTV station to send a picture even if there is a SSB station on 14.233MHz. 73 Marshall K5QE P.S. Intelligent, well thought out replies will be carefully considered. Rants, Flames, etc -----> bit bucket. They will not pass GO and will not receive $200. -=-=-=-=-=-= > > Begin forwarded message: >> From: Mr B r a d >> Date: January 17, 2015 at 2:15:04 PM CST >> To: n5ya@n5ya >> Subject: contesting on 14.23 SSTV calling frequency >> Reply-To: Mr B r a d >> could you please not contest of the SSTV calling frequency? >> here is a partial list of station your are QRMing >> Worldwide SSTV Cam Gallery from CX2ABP qsl.net/cx2abp/cam/wwsstv.html >> >> image >> please move down 5kc >> thank you >> good luck
