results of yesterdays test run of the boring bit... some good some bad... it did what it was intended to do in the sense that it created its own hole and completely ignored the center hole in the extrusion. it also ate through the aluminum like butter until the chip load became too great which unfortunately ended up being about .025 to .050 inches deep. this weekends agenda... make and test a slightly altered version of the design. also will try to finish the barrel kit for the prototype marker which is coming along quite nicely. yet another reason to keep pushing on this boring tool design... it would allow me to bore right through the marker body and follow it with a reamer where i would otherwise have to rely on end mills and drill bits to get straight holes. in other words... winning. :D as always... pics once its tested and functional.
