The Empire State guys had a hidden tower in their plans, that they raised at the last minute, giving them the title. But the art deco magnificence of the Chrysler building stayed in the public mind, and kind of fused with the rather boring architecture of the empire state...to create the fictitious "Chrysler Empire State Building", the one we wished was the Empire State, that King Kong climbed. for my money, the Chrysler is without doubt the winner in battle for art deco new york splendour….the building kong climbs in my head!
