‘……..they were helping the people of Iraq to re-build their Country and in doing so they were required to make the ultimate sacrifice,’ Today we remember and honour Corporal Marc ‘Spud’ Taylor, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, attached to 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery and Gunner David ’Loz’ Lawrence, 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery who gave their all for our freedom south-west of Basra, Iraq on the 28th September, 2004. Cpl Taylor and Gnr Lawrence were travelling in an armoured Land Rover part of a three vehicle convoy escorting builders through Basra to a new housing project in the area. During the journey the convoy was attacked by small arms fire. Almost immediately the insurgents also fired a rocket propelled grenade at the vehicle carrying Cpl Taylor and Gnr Lawrence using an armour-piercing explosive of a type used against tanks giving the Land Rover ‘no chance’. Initially Cpl Taylor survived the attack but efforts to revive him failed. Gnr Lawrence died in the explosion. Corporal Marc Taylor, who had also served in Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland, was 27 years old and married with one child and a second child on the way. Gunner David Lawrence was 25 years old and left behind a girlfriend PLEASE SIGN & SHARE epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/60004
