tl;dr my friend Lena works at a kennel and this morning three 5 day old kittens were brought to them by a good samaritan who found them literally in the trash. They are doing their best to care for these kittens, but the medical expenses are over $1500, so if you can help (even a dollar or just sharing the info is helpful) paypal hpmusicqueen@yahoo (I can 100% vouch for the legitimacy of this story and also my friend. This is not a scam or a chain letter.) cc: Jimmy Humphries (original post below) *** This morning at about 8:30am, I was disturbed at work (reminder: I work in a kennel/ pet boarding facility) by a sanitation worker pounding on our door asking for help. When I looked in the cardboard box he was holding I gasped - there lay the three tiniest kittens I have ever seen in my life, shivering and meowing like crazy. Someone threw them in the trash, he said. I found them in a garbage bag. I picked them up and held them too my chest for warmth, and I literally thought they were going to die in my arms. None of the shelters were open yet and the worker, Phil, had to leave for the rest of his route so I took the kittens into my own care. I ran screaming bloody murder into the kennel and my co-workers helped me warm up the laundry room and get the kittens some heat. I called the owner of my facility, and she ended up calling her vets cell phone and rushing to meet her at the ICU at Prospect Park Animal Clinic. The three kitties are hanging in there, and we believe that they will last through the night. We estimate that they are no more than five days old. The babies will be able to go home from the ICU on Friday, but after we all called many shelters today, they cannot be taken in right now due to the around the clock attention that they will need for the next few weeks. So, at this point in time the plan is for my roommate William Shishmanian and I to foster them starting this weekend until they are able to be adopted out. I will be given training by the vets at Prospect Park Animal Clinic so that we are prepared. Danielle and my work are fronting all of the medical expenses for now, but we are currently asking for donations to cover their vet care up until their neutering. We believe that it will be upwards of $1500 (two nights in the ICU will do that to you) even with the discount that the vet is offering us. I have been in contact with Phil, whose coworkers raised a little over $200 to donate to the fund. We are not starting a kickstarter or indiegogo right now, because we do not have a specific monetary end goal. So if you would like to donate, please send funds to my paypal, hpmusicqueen@yahoo. (Please note, this email is only used for paypal. If you need to contact me for any other reason, please use my regular email, lenagabrielle@yahoo) Any amount will help us out during the next few weeks, and if we are able to raise enough money to cover these initial costs, all funds will be donated directly to the pets additional care such as food and litter. Please share. Love will prevail. --Lena
