update on tonights City of Colton Legislative Affairs Committee meeting. Item 5 Animal Control. We had a very good turn out of animal advocates. The meeting started with my colleagues selecting me as the Chairman of the committee. We received a staff report regarding Coltons Animal Control processs, costs, shelter costs, licensing, funding ideas, grants, ideas to improve our ordinances and better control. For the record, I stated the goals i expected to achieve. We will continue the discussions next week. Now that the introductions have occurred, the directions and goals listed, the work can begin. Rolling up the sleeves. if you know me.... Everything I initiate.....I Follow through......and I work until it is completed. With the support of my fellow committee members Frank Navarro and Deirdre Bennett, success will be ours. Thanks to everyone that came out. My personal goals. Short term 1. Finding alternative housing to remove ourselves from San Bernardino Shelter. a. Riverside County b. Contract with Rescue Organizations and Fosters 2. Prevention & Education a. Licensing – Beaumont – Life long registration to Micro chip/spay or neuter/ b. Cat trap/neuter/release c. Recruit low cost spay and neuter organizations. 3. Additional Animal Control Office – Change name to Compliance Officer to work and implement prevention and compliance to city license laws, breeding, running loose, etc… Long term Goals 1. Create a JPA similar to SEAACA in Downey. 2. Land for Lease possibilities to an organization willing to build and manage a Animal Haven. Like YAP Yucaipa Animal Placement Society
