yesterdays glitter stories: One score minus five years or so ago I was in Mexico when a random traveler handed me a pouch of glitter and said it may come in handy at some point in our journey. I thought otherwise but I placed the pouch of glitter in my pocket anyway. A few weeks later I was walking with a friend in the northern desert making a trek to elephant mountain which is a sacred site of the Huichol Indians. This is still a very remote region and even more so back then. We passed by a small goat farm and a little boy maybe 5 years old walked towards us. He probably rarely if ever had seen many foreigners so this was a curious encounter he was going to embrace. He asked us if we were magicians. Without missing a beat we said Yes! We then asked him if he would like to see some magic. He gave a nod and smiled in anticipation. I had him stretch out his arms and close his eyes. I got down on my knee, gave a wink to my buddy, grabbed the glitter pouch out of my pocket and blew that pixie dust all over his arms. It was a little windy so the glitter actually blew beyond his arms into a cloud which sparkled all around. He stood there in hypnotic bliss, giddy at the glitter goodness that flickered on and around us. I handed him the pouch as a gift. He ran back to his house smiling and laughing, as if I had just given him the chalice of infinite magic and wonder. It could all be mere projection on my end but I truly feel as if he will never forget that moment. At any rate, I know I never will. It is these simple moments of shared magical experience that I live for. Its the nectar of life. Im indifferent to glitter, but it became an important medium at just the right moment in time. And I guess that traveler who handed me the pouch was right about it coming in handy. I just never suspected something as simple and frivolous as glitter could create such a profoundly joyous moment. Chalk it up to the fact that happiness is not having something, rather it is being a part of something. A fan of my healing hands and my massage chair surprised me and found me where I stood one recent day. Shed made a crude wire wrap around a small vial of glitter and affixed it to a stretchy necklace. As she gifted it to me, she said, you never know when pixie dust will come in handy. Its mostly handy around my neck, sparking sparkling conversation and a confident sense that all is well and wonderful. I have used a pinch to amuse my other admirers already. Yet, I will only use a touch at a time and have already purchased refill glitter in case of emergencies. I imagine I will have to hide one day, and only reveal my where abouts to a certain someone or two whos on my side. A pinch of glitter in the air for the right magical moment can only add to the greatest good. Adding to the greatest good is our mission in these human forms, no? I love you all and love the love reflected back. Aaron Miller The little boy was adopted by wealthy American bankers.
