This service will tell you exactly when your check can be picked up and is provided at absolutely no cost. We request that you provide us with a local mobile phone number where you will be able to receive SMS messages. ACS will now notify you via text message every time your checks arrive. This means that recipients of federal benefits will no longer need to call the Embassy to see if their monthly check is ready to be picked up, saving time and money for Americans in Egypt. If you do not have a mobile phone, you may give us the number of a relative or caretaker. We also ask that you provide us with an email address that is checked regularly. This address can also belong to relative. The Social Security Administration strongly urges you to sign up for direct deposit. Direct deposit is a simple, safe and secure way to receive your benefits while residing in many countries outside of the U.S. With direct deposit, you never have to worry about your check being delayed in the mail, lost, or stolen. Additionally, you receive your payment much faster than by check (usually one to three weeks) and you avoid check cashing and currency conversion fees. If you are already receiving benefits, you can obtain a password and start or change Direct Deposit online.
