11/28 SURF/BOAT/JETTY Water temp this sunny cold morning is 47.3. Wednesday was a wash and no reports from the beaches because of the rain. Some did fish yesterday morning before they went home and ate turkey, ham and all the other stuff and then sat back and watched football. I did have a few reports of some stripers being caught but almost all were shorts with only a handful being small keepers. Word has it that it has been on clams, bunker (we have frozen vacuum packed in stock), swimming plugs, and thin metals with a teaser. Is it lack of bass or lack of people fishing? I think it is a bit of both. Talking to a lot of people and there is one thing that is common in what I have heard, it has been a very bad season off the beaches for stripers. Because of that a lot have packed it up already. Another thing I will say is that Montauk has not had stripers in a few weeks and North Carolina has had stripers for about three weeks now. So take that for what it is worth, but with a bunch of short stripers being caught and so on I would have to almost say the major part of the fall run is over and it is winding down to being resident stripers soon. That is unless you go south. Some party boats did have enough people to sail and sail they did. Of course they caught stripers but the numbers are down and the bass are not as big now. A lot of them are now nice dinner sized stripers. As for bottom fishing boats they did really good with the tog yesterday. White leggers and green crabs working about as good as each other.
