2014: A Good Year For Big Data Professionals: According to industry experts, future of hiring professionals in the Big Data & Analytics industry looks very bright. With a large number of foreign firms outsourcing their analytics needs to India, there will automatically be an increase in demand for skilled professionals in this area. Companies in India are currently looking at specific skills while hiring Big Data specialists. They are also looking at nurturing in-house talents to do more complex value-added analytics. Also, a lot of emphasis will be given on campus recruitment in 2014, say experts. There will be requirement for big data developers and big data engineers mostly for the fresher-level candidates. For mid-level professionals, offered roles would be big data analyst, big data consultant, data mining expert, big data lead, big data scientist and data analytic engineer. “Data technicians, covering big data analytics and cloud computing have grown exponentially over the last one year,” confirms Surabhi Mathur Gandhi, senior vice president, IT-Sourcing, Teamlease Services Pvt. Ltd. According to Gandhi, some of the popular roles are as follows: • Data hygienists: Validate accuracy and authenticity of incoming data and maintain systematic updates • Data explorers: Sift through raw data and convert to usable, systematic informative structure • Business solution architects: Construct validated data in a schematic and categorised manner to make it readable and ready to analyse. • Data scientists: Take organised data to create sophisticated analytics models to help predict customer behavior and allow advanced customer segmentation and pricing optimisation • Campaign experts: Responsible for turning analytic models into results by using the knowledge of the technical systems to deliver specific marketing campaigns to target audiences Depending on the kind of role, companies also identify professionals with particular set of skills. Kamal Mishra, delivery head, Analytics Quotient, points out the top skills for big data professionals. • Business consultants: Marketing or business experience with an engineering plus MBA background. • Analysts: Engineering or a Masters in data sciences like statistics and economic plus a basic knowledge of SAS, SQL, SPSS, Micro Strategy • Technical consultants: Software Engineering • Data visualisers: Engineering with an MBA and knowledge of design software With so many roles available for big data professionals at all levels, the coming years will see positive hiring activities in this industry.
