9.29.13 AFTERNOON UPDATES: Ron and I arrived at the shelter - TopicsExpress

9.29.13 AFTERNOON UPDATES: Ron and I arrived at the shelter around 11:45 this morning and stayed until 3:30. Jake was laying on his blankets this morning when we arrived. When Ron finished cleaning the kennels on the right side of the building, and I had finished sterilizing and washing all of the bowls, buckets and crates, it was feeding time - and Jake knew it. His mind is sharp. He caught on quickly to the routine. I could barely stand to watch him as he tried, repeatedly, to gain his balance on the concrete floor. There is no way you can look at this poor old fella and not shed a tear (or hundreds). He stood (as best he could) at the kennel door watching me mix their meals up. At one point, there was a lone bark in the shelter. It was Jake. He was growing impatient waiting for his food. The old guy still has spunk even if his body won’t cooperate. There hasn’t been any rescue groups, or potential adopters, stepping forward on Jake’s behalf. With his condition and age, it’s not all that surprising. The reality of it is that this innocent dog was rejected by our society long before now. Time and again, people passed him by, watching him drag himself throughout the neighborhood looking for food, water and a safe place to lay. Fortunately, Jake crossed the path of an Angel recently, Denise, who couldn’t stand to see that suffering dog out there on the streets any longer. Although Jake won’t have a future, he is no longer going to suffer. I hope to have Jake released in the morning so that he can return to our vet clinic. We should have the results of the specialist’s findings by mid-day. If they affirm what our vet suspects, we will make sure that Jake passes in the arms of people who care and not in the chaos and discomfort of a shelter environment. I was told that tomorrow is the last day for Jake at the shelter. If it has to happen, I’d rather he not be alone. While we were at the shelter, I snapped a few photos as well but they were taken through the kennels so they won’t be all that great. It took us nearly the entire time we were there to get all the cleaning out of the way. I’ll try to get a few of them posted here – the dogs that we haven’t had time to share as of yet. “Tasha’s” Angel arrived today. Her name is Amanda. She brought her own dog to make sure he and Tasha would get along before committing to adopting her. Tasha did GREAT with their dog! All she wanted to do was play with him. She seemed to really like her new human friends, too, gave them both “hugs” and kisses. She was on her best behavior today – and it saved her life. She left there with her new family. Praise God for yet another miracle! Timber left today, too, to go into foster care through Brazoria County Humane Society . He was a happy boy leaving that shelter! Thank you, Shelley, for putting your day on hold to drive all the way to La Porte to get him out of there. We desperately needed the kennel space – and Timber deserves to be in a home environment (air conditioning… YES!). He will be available for adoption through BCHS. Babe and Sasha have been doubled up in one kennel so we have three kennels available. It buys us another day, but not much more than that, to continue to get some of these dogs out of there. “Baby”, the emaciated Pitt mix, and Jake, are the most urgent now. Both dogs are Code Red (on the E-List). Baby is a sweet, precious dog who just needs a little time in the arms of a loving family who will nurse her back to health. She’s still very young. We’re praying she gets to enjoy the better side of life outside of the shelter walls but we need another miracle for that to happen. Please continue to share Baby and the others. Before I end today’s novel, I want to thank the fabulous volunteers/NASA interns who sacrificed some of their time yesterday to help us get items priced for our upcoming garage sale. THANK YOU ALL! I haven’t had the chance to announce it yet but we have been collecting items in a storage unit for a long while now in anticipation of holding the sale for the sole purpose of raising much-needed funds for Triumphant Tails, Inc. If anyone has additional items they would like to donate, please contact Ginger at [email protected] so we can make arrangements for you to drop them off or get them picked up. We also need help at the sale itself which is going to run from 7 a.m. – noon’ish on Saturday, October 5th. If you can help, please let us know. Much Love, Kym Ann & Ron
