A fan needs your help- I am having a hard time making a decision, I am so confused. I will seek advice here, as I know this page has lots of experienced special parents who are willing to help others. Thank you in advance! >>> I live with my boyfriend and our two years old baby, who has developmental delays, seizures and other health conditions. I have cried so many tears because of all the things my child has had to go through. I stay home to take care of my baby and we are a low income family. We are US citizens, and live in PR -which is an US territory- (we are basically like an US state, in terms of laws and life style etc., with some differences). Unfortunately the benefits and services for special children with disabilities/special needs here are very weak and limited. S.S.I. -which is available to the US residents-, is NOT available here at all. Medicaid helps somehow, but they have lots of restrictions here and services are really slow. I have been advised many times to move to the US, for my child to receive all the benefits, services and equipment she needs and is entitled to. And believe me, I want to move as soon as possible, but I do not know where should I go! I have heard -from Pediatricians and other special parents- great things about BOSTON, Ma; Connecticut; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Rochester, New York .... If you ask me where I would like to go, Boston would be my choice, but I have no family members there who can help me when I arrive, and let me stay with them for a few days until I get a place. I DO have family in Chicago, Virginia, North Carolina, Missouri and Florida, and a friend who is willing to help, who lives in Rochester NY…It seems that Illinois, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida are not good choices in terms of the Medicaid benefits, as they are limited (I am not sure about this, I am telling you what I have heard and/or read, so feel free to correct me if I am wrong ) so I was thinking to go either to Missouri, North Carolina, or Rochester New York….QUESTIONS: (1)=== > WHICH STATE would you recommend me to go… Missouri, North Carolina, or Rochester New York (or any other ) and why?? (2)=== >Do you (or other special parent you know) live in any of the states I mentioned? What has been your experience in terms of the benefits and help ; SSI, Medicaid and any other benefits for low income families and/or special needs children??? What other services have you got for your child and family???? (3)=== > Which is the best state for Special needs children in your opinion??? (4)=== >Do you know any other way we can do to move to the US to a state where we have no family (to Boston for example) and somehow get some help and stay somewhere? How do we get help? What are the steps? Thank you GOD Bless!"
