A glimpse into parenting... You wake up, groggy, to the sound of your husbands voice, telling you that its time to wake up and go to bed. You realize that youve fallen asleep on a floor pillow in front of the fireplace (like a cat) for who knows how long. He helps you up and you stumble to bed, walking past the leftover supper mess scattered across the kitchen counter. So gross, but on this night, youre just too tired to rally and tackle it. You get to your room where the baby STILL lives (because it just works, okay?) and he is, for reasons unknown, wide awake. You check the clock. Its midnight. He holds up his bottle for a refill. You look at the unmade bed and remember that you had two feverish daughters resting there most of the day. There is a box of Cheerios on the pillows, and bowls littering the bed. Moving them all to the side, you begin to straighten up the sheets, only to discover that your 3-year old has decorated them with the Disney Princess stickers that were in her stocking. You peel the stickers off, one by one, finish pulling the sheets tight, and shuffle upstairs to check on the children, one of whom is awake and is asking for more Tylenol. And none of this seems surprising or abnormal because this is just life now, and youre so used to it that it doesnt even hurt anymore. Rather, it fits you like a glove.
