A lot has happened since our last update. Since Mia has been moved - TopicsExpress

A lot has happened since our last update. Since Mia has been moved to the rehab unit, she has been working hard while receiving all of her therapies twice a day. Her legs and arms are getting stronger each day. The physical therapist has been working with Mia on various stretching exercises for her legs. She has been having a lot of knee pain from it, but it is to be expected. Her upper body is really strong, and she has even been wheeling herself around in the wheelchair. She has had a lot of sleepless nights, but gets some rest throughout the day. Her kidneys have started to fully function, so the doctors have stopped dialysis completely and have taken her dialysis PIC line out for good. They took out her feeding tube and Mia is now eating regular food, as her digestive system is now working on its own (and she couldn’t be happier to be eating real food again!). The doctors have taken her off any IV feeds or meds and will pull her last PIC line sometime this week. Mia has been getting up every morning and getting ready on her own before she starts her day. We continue to spend countless hours in the hospital as well as some overnights with her. We also are involved with her therapies and assisting with exercises and transfers and such. She was able to get out this last weekend and we are able to take her on outings every weekend until she heads back to Alaska. As you can see, Mia has made tremendous progress in the last few weeks. We are looking at her return to Alaska around the middle of May. It will definitely be nice to get her home and continue her outpatient therapies back in Alaska. Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers for Mia’s recovery! ❤️
