AAA TIPS: Setting reachable goals... In the 1st few months after surgery, you are not going to be Superman or Superwoman, leaping small buildings in a single bound. It’s wise to set small attainable goals on a day-to-day basis. Later on you can start setting goals that are larger and attainable on a week-to-week basis. In the beginning, for example, you might work on safely performing sit to stand transfers as part of preparing to walk to and from the bathroom independently. Then, as your confidence and your strength grow you can set larger goals. Be sure to talk with your physical therapist about goal planning and setting appropriate goals. Remember, if you have figured out a good safe transfer from your wheelchair to bed…be inventive, see if it will work for transfers to the toilet, sofa or your car. Be safe, but always be asking, what am I going to conquer today. Go ahead make a short-term goal today. Go ahead...
