AMES AND THE CASE OF THE MISSING TESTICLE!! =) Ok, we have SIX cats going in for vetting on Monday!! 1) Mercy, the calico that was released by the breeder. She will be spayed, fiv/felv tested, microchipped and vaccinated. 2) Domino, the black/white boy that was released along with Mercy from the breeder. He will be neutered, fiv/felv tested, microchipped and vaccinated. 3) Cosmo, the white boy that came along with Mercy and Domino. He will also be neutered, fiv/felv tested, microchipped and vaccinated. 4) New little blue tabby girl will be spayed, fiv/felv tested, microchipped and vaccinated. 5) New ragdoll girl will be spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. Thankfully the shelter was able to combo test this darling girl, so we already know shes negative. and 6) Ames....yes AMES!! When Ames first came in, I swore that his urine smelled faintly of unneutered male. There were no testes visible or palpate-able. When Ames went in for his very expensive dental, I asked if they could somehow verify if Ames was fully neutered or not. I asked this because cryptorchid-ism (where one or both testicles do not descend fully, but remain in the abdomen) is not uncommon in persians. We have been seeing more and more cryptorchids happening (as this is a congentially passed on condition - it is due to BAD BREEDING!!). I was assured that Ames was neutered. NO - HE IS NOT!!! Ames started displaying behaviors present in unaltered boys - trying to mate with various cats, calling to mate, fighting with other boys, ect. So I did some investigating and found this very imformative blog posting: foothillsanimalhospital.blogspot/2012/01/oh-yes-i-took-picture.html. And, yes, I checked Ames. And, yes, he does still have barbs on his little pee-pee. So, YES, he does still have a testicle in him somewhere. And on Monday - its coming OUT! lol! The upshot - we expect our vet bill to cost about $450. Donations to help cover this expense would be very appreciated!!!! Donations can be made thru our Flowers for Pua fund!! Right now the fund is at $3905 (keep in mind, most of these donations have already been spent on previous medical bills!). So we need to get the fund up to $4355 to cover this upcoming bill. All donations will be matched!!!! You can make your donation thru Paypal here: youcaring/medical-fundraiser/flowers-for-pua/198622 All donations are tax deductible, STPR is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization. As always - thank you soooo much for your support!!! Please SHARE this status!! Sincerely, Beth Anderson South Texas Persian Rescue
