ARE THERE SUPER SPIRITUAL PEOPLE IN YOUR ASSEMBLY? I just - TopicsExpress

ARE THERE SUPER SPIRITUAL PEOPLE IN YOUR ASSEMBLY? I just skimmed an article on super spiritual people. I found it interesting that this article deals with people in positions of authority in ministries that strongly emphasize these things. One of the things that came up in the article about them was this. 2. They place too much emphasis on dreams, visions and spiritual manifestations. God speaks to us through His Spirit, and He can use dreams, visions or prophetic words. Yet His message always flows with love and brings peace. On the contrary, a spirit of weirdness usually follows hyper-spiritual people who claim to receive constant revelations. Paul warned the Colossians about people like this when he said: Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen... (Col. 2:18). I wonder, for any of you involved in this, how your Christianity would stand if these things were not part of it. What if God only revealed what he wanted to reveal to you through the Bible alone - would that be enough for you, or must you be led by someone you deem to be superior to you? We live in an age of sensationalism and emotionalism in the body of Christ. If what we experience doesnt have some zing and pop in it we think it is boring and unspiritual. As Leonard Ravenhill said; We replace the moving of the Holy Spirit with entertainment. I believe some of that is music based, but a lot of it is the expectation of what we deem to be true spirituality, and many assemblies would fall apart if there wasnt a message in tongues, rhythmic musical presentations, skits, certain songs sung over and over like pagan chants, prophecies, interpretations and such things. In the Old Testament the Lord speaks out to his people and he says; Be still and know that I am God. This generation of Christians doesnt know how to be STILL in Gods presence. We are so desperate for the goodies that we dont understand They that wait upon the Lord. Waiting on the Lord means quieting ourselves and listening as he speaks to our hearts. I wonder how much he had to say to us that he couldnt because we were making too much noise. The Bible says; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength. It isnt that I am implying we should always be quiet! Rather, it is that I am concerned that we have never learned or have forgotten who is in charge and that he has something to say to us that doesnt involve a leader. Its an individual thing between us and God. If our spiritual walk depends on leaders or outward manifestations or Christian music or anything but our direct communication with God we are babes and need to grow up. C. R. Lord © 2014
