And just like that the fishing changes. After two weeks of somewhat mediocre fishing, at least by the standards we have come to expect, the action broke open both along the shore and out in the blue water. Now the conventional guys may not be doing back flips as the tuna bite has fallen off, but for dorado, roosters and sails, the table is well set for the fly fishers. Long time clients and friends Jack and Luann Bremmer are here from Fairbanks Alaska and making the most of popper fishing for roosters and dorado. We have experienced swarms of roosters on the top water flies, slashes, burps and crashes on foam, feathers, hair and steel. The good gets better in that the distance between good rooster fishing and dorado is measured in yards and not miles. While Jack and Luann took a day off the water, Merry and I launched our kayaks at light House and paddled out past the blue line. In two hours time we connected on eight dorado and saw one wahoo lurking off the end of our kayaks. Sailfish and marlin were free jumping around us, skip jack were crashing small bait, wow what a busman’s holiday. Back to work today with Jack and more popper fishing for ravenous small roosters. We pulled fish up at La Ribera Marina, Chili Patos, Punta Colorada, in front of the hotel Punta Colorada, Casa Glen and the sticks. The poppers in my box are looking a little ragged.
