Another Special #TBT - In addition John & Sean Lennon, Robert Brussow, Glenn Ireland, Kara Moody and my nephew Jay-Jays birthday, its also the late great John Entwistles birthday. He wouldve been 70 today... The Ox had a profound influence on me musically as I, for a time, had the task of portraying him in The Wholigans - A Tribute to the WHO. It was my first foray into playing with a tribute band. Though I had previously learned good chunk of the WHO repertoire on bass, it was still a massive undertaking to learn his more melodic bass work such as The Real Me, Punk and Godfather, Wont Get Fooled Again and the Live at Leeds version of My Generation. Granted, I wasnt as great of an Entwistle bassist as others were, but I made the best of it as I stuck to his less complex yet powerful bass work of the mid 60s - mid 70s WHO. This particular version of Generation was performed at the 2009 Friendly Kiafest/Main Street Blast. I recall, this was our first time performing it, very little to no rehearsal. And blimey!
