As an artist: Im currently doing an experiment / performance piece where I am temporarily living in the suburbs of MD. I am trying to make sense of a life where one is 100% car dependent. I am exploring the subtle differences and nuances that one experiences away from walkable urban life. As a real estate agent: I realize that the suburbs makes sense for some peoples lifestyles. I also realize that not all suburbs were created equal. My thought for today: Personally, I dont understand how so much of America became 100% car dependent. Being totally dependent on a car doesnt feel natural. As humans I think we feel inclined to walk and be a part of our environment. I am not saying that everyone must live in an urban center, but, it feels good to be a part of a community where you casually run into people, know your neighbors and have walking & biking as a valid form of transportation. I miss the faces of the people who live and work around me in DC. Were people thinking logically when they separated zoning uses? It really was a conspiracy wasnt it?
