As the Uganda Police Force recently celebrated its Centenary, a couple of our own were promoted for their exemplary service to the force, namely: 1. Charles Kataratambi [1989-1995] ( from Commissioner of Police to Senior Commissioner of Police ) 2. Dr. Moses Byaruhanga. [1987-1993 ]. ( from Senior Superintendent of Police to Commissioner of Police ) 3. Kugonza Franklin Rwego [ 1992-1998 ] ( from Assistant Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commisssioner of Police ) 4. James Kusemererwa. [ 1991-1997 ] ( from Superintendent of Police to Senior Superintendent of Police ) 5. Cosmas Ruganzu [ 1989 - 1992 ] ( from Assisitant Superintendent of Police to Superintendent of Police ) Congrats guys. Tit Bits about Police ranks. 1- IGP. 2-DIGP, current one is an OB JM Okoth Ochola 3-AIGP The above three ranks are contractual . If promoted to any of these,one retires from police ( permanent and pensionable status), they are 3 yr renewable contracts.(strategic command) 4-Senior Commisioner of Police 5- Commissioner of Police 6-Asst Comm of Police 7- senior superintendent of Police 8-Superintendent of police 9- Asst Superintendent of Police These 6 above constitute what are called senior officers. These do middle and senior command positions. 10- Inspector of Police 11- Asst Inspector of Police 12- Sergeant of Police 13- corporal 14- Constable These five constitute the most important ranks in police, they are the point officers. They arrest, guard,write statements,rescue persons in distress & face danger everyday . They are the ones the public usually interacts with,on the road,(traffic and patrols) at police counters ( reporting incidents). Basically the face of Police and the State so to speak. At the celebrations, Police launched Community policing with the theme Police are the people and the people Police hence the last five ranks are going to be the focus in achieving this. and changing the outlook of Police so to speak. That is Polices vision for the next 100 yrs, those around in 2114 will evaluate how well they planned and executed.
