As we are all aware, WE,as a union, along with our retirees, are in the biggest fight this association has ever seen. The City of Detroit and State of Michigan are assaulting us from all sides with attacks on health care, pension,wages, and any other aspect of our lives they believe they can profit from. We have been attempting to explain to departments around the country that we are the first domino and,if we fall, so do departments everywhere. We have implored our national organization NAPO to provide us with assistance and,aside from setting up a couple of meetings with the AG and his office which turned out to be fruitless, no assistance has come our way other than a $2500 check from a Florida county association. In contrast, the International Association Of Fire Fighters is footing the bill for the Detroit Fire Fighters Asssociation. It is time that WE, as an association, have our voices heard and let NAPO know that this lack of support is totally unacceptable. After one of our members, Ray Scola, asked how and where his opinion of this could be heard, the thought occurred- What impact could a flood of letters from our membership have on NAPO? We are asking that everyone write to the address listed at the bottom of this email, professionally and respectfully expressing our disgust at the non-existence of support from our NATIONAL association which pledges their support anytime we are present to hear but yet has left us on our own in a precedent setting battle which could very well lead to a nationwide war on public safety unions. We are asking that each and every one of us step up and express those thoughts which we tirelessly express on social media and amongst ourselves at work and put those words to use in an effort to let NAPO know that we need and expect their help in this fight.
