At the urging of partisan power brokers like the Heritage Foundation, Republicans in swing states like Ohio, North Carolina, and Wisconsin have passed voting restrictions designed to engineer long lines at the polls in urban centers. These electioneering strategies are being challenged in the courts, and, they may not bear fruit until 2016 when voter turnout swells for the presidential election. Unless the Supreme Court becomes as interested in voting rights as it is in anonymous money buying influence with lawmakers, we could see hundreds of polling places that look like Woodbridge, Virginia 2012.
