Its national donut day so the grocery store is throwing in an extra half dozen when you buy a dozen and bacon. The child who had to move away gets a plane ticket for her birthday and a week to spend with her bestfriend forever now that schools out, and schools out. Because intelligence is informed by sensitivity and doesnt forget what it learned about evolution being protective and supportive. Because Missy has 15 unchewed bones hidden under the couch. and its Friday and summer in the thriving metropolis. The benchwarmer is getting sent in. Sam got the job. The radio station is auctioning off music to perform live at your party, The prisoner of war is free. His mother weeps and his father rejoices. Because pizza toppings on zucchini slices. Because Leonard was brave, loyal, and honorable. Pure class like soldiers have who know what they are fighting for. Because home improvement and a city in ruins is being restored. Because the love of her life and forgiving for the same thing as many times as it happens over and over again because it isnt meant to be provoking. It is because I wish you would explain. And scrolling past sad news with heart flying out for grief so hard our helplessness cannot stop for it, because beauty is mortal and marvels at being alive, just being alive, just able to breathe today and think of all the blessings of loving so much, so much. Like a daughter this weekend practicing her violin and cat dancing, Like a son who likes because cousins and aunts, and grampa in a hat, And June brides and June gardens, world travellers, and Bill Murray reading poetry at a construction site, and seeing the government seeking support for wonderful things like education and good things like saving the post office. Because in Canada now you are a criminal if you buy a girl, and book chicks, and The Paris Review and Godzilla haiku... With artillery--you greet your nuclear child--am I the monster?
