Cesar Chavez is a movie that Im going to back 100%, and I dont give two flips what the Rotten Tomatoes critics say about it. This empowering movie chronicles the radical social reforms of Chavez (Michael Pena) as he tries to gains basic civil rights and better working conditions for migrant workers in California in the 1960s and 70s. Pena brilliantly portrays Chavez, including what makes him tick and his selfless exploits of civil disobedience that led to reform for the workers. Chavez and his union essentially aim to have the growers wine and grapes boycotted, forcing the growers (John Malkovich) to come to the table to work out a deal. I feel the film is very fluid and tautly directed, and despite the mixed reviews it has gotten, I actually loved the film and its inspiring candor and find it be one of the best of 2014 ---------------------------------------- A-
