At the all Africans games, 80 million Egypt and 51 million South Africa almost always, along with 38 million Algeria, beat us to 3rd or 4th place. At the last World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea, 43 million Kenya amassed 9 gold medals while 165 million Nigeria got nothing. On the economy, 51 million South Africa is light years ahead of Nigeria. On the list of the world’s poorest countries or other such indices, Nigeria rates a lowly 120s out of 185 rated countries. What is our claim to strength or greatness as a result of our giant size? Even at war and diplomacy, 21 million Cameroon beat us to the ownership of the Bakassi Peninsula which had been Nigeria territory since independence. The world is an open market. You can manufacture anywhere and sell to anywhere. 51 million South Africans has colonized 165 million Nigerians (Nov. 2011) UN estimate with MTN and DSTV. 60 million South Koreans sell industrialized goods (Daewoo, Samsung and Hyundai cars and Electronic) to 6 billion world population. 15 million Cote d’voire is largest producer of cocoa to the whole world while Nigeria of 165 million is a distance forth to it. It is not the size that is the advantage, it is how the country’s minders are able to harness the potential of its human and material resources that determines whether that country is a winner or looser; a champion or am ‘also ran’. China with its 1.3 billion population (92% of the people are Han ethnic group) did not get its act together until 20 years ago. Before then, they were slaves and conquered peoples to 200 million Japan. Before then, they were also migrant workers of the whole world and a dumping ground for any junk from anywhere else. Now they have found their rhythm and the whole world is eating at their feet. 6 million Israelis perpetually humiliated 260 million Arabia in over 60 years of its existence. Size means nothing if its advantage is not meticulously and intellectually exploited. As it is, Nigeria is dead on arrival. Its humongous size will achieve nothing if the voracious inferno of contending forces inside it is not resolved. Each must be allowed to go its own way. Each must be allowed to tread its own path.
