Community Calendar for Friday, July 5, 2013 Friday 7/5 • Most offices in the Tribal Organizations are closed for business today as part of a money saving reduction in work hours effort. • Indian Health Service is open today. A reminder: Due to staffing shortages, the clinic is not able to have late clinics in July. The clinic will close daily at 5pm. • The 509J Summer Lunch program is closed today but will resume on Monday at the WS Elementary school cafeteria • Warm Springs Boys and Girls Club is closed today but kids can join volunteers at the Skate Park across from the community center for games, crafts, activities, drinks, snacks, bible stories and singing. • The Community Action Team is hosting the Friday Farmers Market today on campus. There is no fee for Tribal Members and tents are available to rent. • There’s a 2 house yard sale today on WS Elementary’s teacher’s row. Included in the items are an outside dog kennel and a car! • The Wild Horse Powwow is going on this weekend at Wild Horse Resort and Casino in Pendleton. The Host Drum is Northern Cree. Grand Entries will be at 7pm tonight, and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. NATURAL RESOURCES will give the PROJECT INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM TOUR next Wendesday form 8am to 3pm and next Thursday from 8 til 11:30am. All are invited to participate. They will look at the Warm Springs Farm, Quartz Creek Stream Restoration Project, Simnasho South Fuels Reduction, Potter’s Pond Fisheries Restoration Project, Boulder 2015 Timber Sale & Noxious Weeds. They would like you to RSVP by Monday to Jennifer Doney 553-3555 St. Charles Hospice Madras is looking for volunteers to offer companionship to patients and their families in Jefferson and Wasco counties. Interested individuals should pick up an application at the hospice office located at the east end of the St. Charles Madras hospital, or call Kay at 541-323-2568 for more information. Volunteer training begins Monday, July 8th. 4-H Day Camp will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday and again on the 15th and 16th from 10am to 1pm daily. It’s for all ages. Contact OSU Extension for more information. The Motor Sports Referendum will take place on Tuesday with Voting from 8am until 8pm at the Warm Springs Community Center aerobics room. Camp Naimuma Youth Culture Camp will be held July 17 thru the 21st at Peter’s Pasture. Registration packets can be picked up at the Culture and Heritage office. Scholarships are available. There will be a scholarship workshop on next Wednesday from 1-4pm. And, the deadline for all applications is one week from today -- July 12th. FMI: Merle Kirk 553-3290. A six-week series of Childbirth Education Classes will begin next Wednesday – in Warm Springs at noon and in Madras at 7pm. This series is recommended for parents of babies due before September 18th. To sign up for Warm Springs classes call 541-553-2460 or Madras classes 475-3882. Recreation is taking kids on a field trip to the Old Mill Cinemas next Thursday. Kids will need to bring -- $6, additional spending money and a light jacket. They will leave at 10:30am and return by 4:30. Sign kids up at the Rec office.
