Controller rolls out website detailing city, county finances The California State Controller’s Office unveiled a website that allows the public to track financial data for local governments annually or across a 10-year range. Allen Young, Sacramento Business Journal, 9/8/14 The California State Controller’s Office unveiled a website Monday that allows the public to track financial data for local governments annually or across a 10-year range. Dubbed “By The Numbers,” the site lets users check out basic statistics on counties and cities such as total revenues, expenditures, assets and liabilities, as well as search detailed information such as total public safety spending or property tax rates. “Information about how much your city or county is spending and borrowing is available with a keystroke,” said Controller John Chiang in a statement. Users also can export charts with the data “to spot trends and analyze spending,” Chiang said. For example, a quick data runs shows that Sacramento County received $2.54 billion in 2013, spent $2.49 billion and had $2.93 in bond debt. Those numbers can be compared with other counties in the region or state.
