Conversations from the Campaign Trail Resident: “I don’t like that my property taxes have gone up. Also, my property value went up $3000 so the tax is even higher. Nothing in this neighborhood has changed. This is very hard on me.” Andrea: “We have a complicated situation right now. The county revalued properties recently and the result is that many higher-end homes have had a decrease in valuation. However, as I’ve been talking with people door-to-door, I’ve learned that some middle- and many lower-end homeowners have actually had their home valuations increase! Therefore the tax increase has fallen most harshly on middle- and lower-income families. Woodfin Town Hall says that the tax increase has been ‘revenue neutral.’ But just because the end result is revenue neutral for government, doesn’t mean that it has been revenue neutral for the people. This is something that needs to be addressed. I favor repealing the recent municipal tax rate increase.”
