DYFI stages protest over malpractices at hospital Members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a demonstration in front of Rajah Mirasudhar Government Hospital here on Monday protesting the alleged malpractices and demand for bribes at the hospital. V. Karikalan, district president of the DYFI, alleged that the hospital staff demand money for child births – Rs. 1,000 for male child and Rs. 500 to Rs. 700 for female child – and for various other services such as moving patients in wheelchairs or stretcher, allowing visitors, and supply of tablets. The protestors demanded an end to the practice and sought action against the workers putting up such demand. The gynaecology department does not have adequate wards and an operation theatre at the hospital is not functioning, Mr. Karikalan alleged. P.Rajesh Castro, town secretary of the DYFI, led the agitation.
