Day 9- Im thankful for my wife. We couldnt stand each other in high school, but that all changed our sophomore year in college. Ill never forget the night I realized I would spend the rest of my life with this woman as I stared at her face, illuminated by the lights of the dashboard. I had a complete certainty and peace like never before. At times, I have not always been nice or lovable, yet God saw fit to bring us together and gave Carmen an enormous amount of grace to tolerate my crazy decisions. We would not be where we are today had she not looked at me and said, Were going to church or I can help you pack a bag. My response was quite simple, Church sounds nice. I was at the end of my rope, tired of trying life my way, tired of overcoming obstacles, and quite honestly, I thought theyd be better off with me out of the picture. So to church we went, me with the idea I could prove all this Christian stuff wrong. Boy, did that plan ever go wrong! God used my wife to draw me to Himself. My conversion began 11 years ago. In that time, Ive earned two Masters degrees and just started my Doctorate. I also pastor one of the greatest churches in our area. Gods grace is nothing short of amazing. I did not deserve the woman that God gave me, but by His grace, I am being changed everyday to be the man she needs. I now know that Christ has called me to love my wife with a sacrificial love, as Christ loved the church, that I am to put her needs before my own, that she puts her kids before herself, and that she is the least selfish person I have ever known. She drove 16 hrs after working a 12 hour shift just so our daughter could see 1D in Central Park, performing for Good Morning America. She had our sons first car with a big bow on it waiting on him when he and I returned from a mission trip. As a man who regrets his own stupidity from past mistakes, I am ever thankful for the woman that God has given me. I am thankful for a woman who knows selfless love, love unconditional, and love everlasting. I am thankful for Carmen. I have found the one my soul loves.
