Dear friends, dont worry my account hasnt been hacked or anything. It is your same old, hot-and-cold Mahdi Hasan Ansar (or Porag as the Desis amongst you know me very well as) and Ive opened this group to share with you guys all (anyone that Ive ever had the privilege to meet and say even a few words to in real life) something really delicate and near to my heart. ------- A few weeks ago I received a piece of news that shocked me to my core. Not because the cause of shock was unusual - because it wasn’t - but rather that I’ve never had something like this affecting someone so close to me. It’s about Bishwojit Das - a young university student, the brother of a good school friend of mine and the son of Mr. S. N. Brojendra Chandra Das, my maths teacher in Blue Bird High School, a school that is absolutely synonymous with my whole school life and childhood in Bangladesh. Bishwojit is suffering from leukaemia and needs his bone marrow transplant process to be started ASAP. Now does that sound regular? I suspected it might. After all, thousands of people globally are diagnosed with cancer every single day - so one may ask what is so shocking! I’ll say what – it’s the fact that in this instance, the world of a group of people so very dear and close to me is being turned upside down by this very “regular” phenomenon! I don’t want to bore people with all my memories with Brojen Sir (btw that’s how we address male teachers back home :) ). If I start talking about all the gruelling school sessions run by him, his impact in me taking up mathematics literally as a lifestyle choice, all the life lessons, the playful pulling of sideburns as “punishments”, all the jokes and laughter, the kind gestures, the emotional goodbye at the end of my 11 long years stay in that school - it’ll take more than just a few paragraphs on a FB status. MUCH MUCH MORE! I, or any other former or current student of Brojen Sir for that matter, will never be able to pay back our dues to him – but we are at a point now where we can step forward to prove all the love and respect we have for him. As Manzur Murshed Choudhury, a former student of the school, has so aptly put on his status the other day (roughly translated): “The ailing son and his alarmed mother are staring at the head of their family genuinely hoping he would be able to salvage the day, by making some kind of arrangement that would save his son from this potentially fatal illness. But from where will he conjure up the amount required! As a school teacher by profession, how much would his salary be! What could he possibly have in his savings that would save him from this frightening situation? The answer is: HIS STUDENTS.” Yes, HIS STUDENTS! Brojen Sir could have easily moved on to a more lucrative career path with all his skills and expertise but he chose instead to live a life educating people and turning them into individuals not only of VALUE but also of VALUES. It’s time his students prove to him that the lion’s share of his life that he has been spending till today sharing his knowledge and experience with thousands of young souls in need of early directions in their lives was all actually... WORTH IT! And as a former student of his, this is my petite attempt at doing so: Bishowjit is in need of 40-50 lakh takas (approx. £40,000). An amount close to 3,500,000 takas (about £30,000) has already been spent for his treatment by his family using all the possible resources and his close ones, friends back home and well-wishers are fighting tooth and nail (charity efforts, social media awareness, football tournaments and what not!) in order to assemble the amount, but in a country like Bangladesh it is easier said than done. However... ...here in the UK? I think we can do something. ------- Now I am grateful to God for everything He has given me but I’m not, in local terms, a “well off” man but I can still personally afford to give at least £100 without it making a serious hole in my pocket, and I think so can MOST of us living in this part of the world. If as few as (and I say it with no reservation) 500 people step forward from the UK (and, by extension, from the West) and contribute as little as £50, we would be looking at a figure of about... …£25,000! That’s MORE THAN half the amount required at this stage! (Of course, even a bigger amount is possible! And of course the amount mentioned is just an example - every contribution, however small or big, would be a step towards making this a success) Now you might say he’s my teacher, why do you have to care? And that there are thousands of diseased people in the world that are in dire need of financial assistance, some in worse situations than that of Bishwojit! But how often in life do we get to make a direct impact in saving someone’s life? If your answer is “very few”, then HERE is one such opportunity crying out loud to you saying: YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE... WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! The Holy Quran says (and I believe all the religious scriptures and the non-religious minds share the same sentiment): Whosoever saves one life, it is as though he has saved the whole of humanity [5:32] If we step up and find just a tiny fraction of time from the next few days of our lives in order to make this happen, we could possibly save A LIFE... A PRECIOUS HUMAN LIFE! ------- So here’s the plan: I have about 150 people in my friend list that are from the UK. If even 50 of them: 1) Decide to come forward for this and contribute 2) Personally get as few as 3 of their friends to contribute and 3) Ask those friends of theirs to personally get as few as TWO other people to contribute ... ... We’ll be looking at at least 50 + 50x3 + 50x3x2 = 500 people giving up a mere £50 from their wallets/purses to amass AT LEAST 500 x £50 = £25,000! It’s simple math, but can we make it happen? More importantly, ARE WE WILLING TO? ------- Below are the details for where to send money (best method - via Western Union online): Mr. S. N. Brojendra Chandra Das Acc no – 16021080007723 Bank - Prime Bank Branch - Subid Bazar, Sylhet, Bangladesh [Here’s a Bangladeshi FB group that’s open for his cause (in Bengali): https://facebook/groups/323737417830158/] ------- “ONE SOUL CREATED BY GOD AWAITS THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF ALL THE OTHERS.” And even if you are unable donate anything, keep Bishwojit in your sincerest of prayers. For if God wills... ...it is - [HQ: 16:40]
