(Draft) Somerset Social Plan Some interesting issues were raised at the meeting to discuss the draft Somerset Social plan yesterday evening – these are just a few (I’m sure Kate Girot and others will chime in with some more): 1.There is a need for resources in Fernvale to assist people who require access to services, but who may not have access to Internet, for example, to assist with job searching. 2.There is a need for improved public transport services 3. Telecommunications in Fernvale are crap – one new resident complained she’s been advised she has to wait to get a telephone connection because of a lack of ports in the exchange and even when she does get a line, she’s been advised there is no guarantee she will be able to access ADSL broadband. 4. There is a need for economic development in Somerset to create more local employment opportunities. At the present time most Fernvale residents commute outside the region for work. 5. A suggestion that free Wi-Fi should be made available in the town centre. 6. The crime rate in Fernvale is on the decline.
