Drivers are warned to secure their vehicles after several incidents where reported in Cudworth, Barnsley. In the last couple of days, valuables from three unlocked motor vehicles were stolen. The first incident was reported at around 8am on Wednesday 3 December. A car was entered overnight, between 6pm on Tuesday 2 December and 8am on Wednesday. A Sat Nav and other electrical items were taken. The theft happened in Newtown Avenue, Cudworth, Barnsley. Between 10.30pm on Tuesday 2 December and 7.50am on Wednesday 3 December, a purse was reportedly taken from inside a car parked on Emsley Avenue. At around 3am the neighbours reportedly disturbed two youths on the driveway however no descriptions were given. Also on Wednesday 3 December, a theft was reported at around 8.40am. The incident is believed to have happened overnight in Orchard Place, Barnsley. A car was searched while in the driveway, no valuables were taken. Detective Inspector Gary Askew said: Thieves operate very fast and an unlocked car makes their job so much easier. Always securing you car will ensure that you are not to giving thieves the opportunity to act . Make sure that you remove the valuables from your vehicles or at least take them from display and that you always check if the vehicle is properly locked. Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be patrolling the area. If any cars are being found unlocked, prevention advice will be offered to the owners.
