Early this morning, I was meditating on Genesis 13:8 “And Abram - TopicsExpress

Early this morning, I was meditating on Genesis 13:8 “And Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray you, between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brothers” The word "For we are brothers" hit me like a bomb, the maturity exhibited by Abraham was another attraction to me, I stopped to ponder over that verse, I remembered the Klitschko brothers. The Klitschko brothers have done in boxing what the Williams sisters have done in tennis. These Ukranian born brothers have won everything there is to be won in boxing and have individually taken on every challenger to date with unprecedented victories. Boxing pundits have dangled all manner of offers before these brothers to confront each other in the ring; but they have remained resolute never to fight themselves, not for all the money in the world. That for me is a demonstration of brotherly spirit; and I think they have a lesson or two to teach the Igbos within the context of Nigeria who are often at each other’s jugular, instead of coming together to develop the south East and transform it into a Strong regional force with robust economy. A region that will be the economic hub of Nigeria, similar to what Hong Kong is to China. We are busy pulling each other down, tearing ourselves apart. The recent hostility between Abia State and Imo State over ITC and ABIA line Loading Bays is a major embarrassment to the South East. Our leaders should learn from Abraham and Lot, they should emulate the Kilschko brother and always remember that “we are brothers”. Abram noticed that crisis was brewing between his men and Lot’s men. He also realized that if things were not nipped in the bud there could be some rupture in their own relationship as well. He took the initiative as the elder, and reasoned with Lot that there should be no quarrel between them because “we are brothers”. Abia State is carved out of Imo state; we were once same state, beyond that, we are from the same tribe, same language, and same culture. That makes us brothers and sisters. In any outbreak of hostility between brothers there is actually no winner. Whatever happens, the Father is saddened because the world looks and laughs. The world is looking and laughing at the frosty relationship between two sister states Imo and Abia, that has no reason whatsoever to be at each other’s throat. To preserve the bond of unity there are times we may have to forgo our rights and cherished positions for the greater good . Can somebody please tell Governor Rochas Okorocha and Governor T.K Orji to please bury their ego, resolve this issue for the greater good of the entire Igbo family? It is not time for ego trips and showmanship, it time to do the right thing; it is time for mutual love and respect. Let brotherly love continue. This hostility is making the rest of Nigeria and the world laugh at us. Remember “we are brothers”.
